APPLICATION OF GYPSUM BOARD
Gypsum board can be applied to wood or metal frames or cement. It can be applied directly to masonry and concrete surfaces, as well as to wood or metal cement strips. When applying the board directly to masonry or concrete surfaces, smooth or fill any irregularities to ensure proper connection and an acceptable final finished surface.
A fur suitably attached to the inside of the outer wall provides a flat surface for standard fastener applications and is sufficiently separated from the substrate to overcome the moisture of the outer wall. Do not allow gypsum board to come into direct contact with surfaces with potentially high water content, such as concrete or soil.
The most common in residential construction is a gypsum wallboard system in which the seam between the panel and the interior corners is taped and covered with a seam compound to form a surface suitable for final decoration. The outer corners are usually reinforced with metal or plastic corner beads, which are covered by a seam compound. The exposed edges are covered with metal or plastic trim. The result is a smooth, uninterrupted surface that can be used for final decorative paints, textures, wallpapers, panels or other materials.
Gypsum board and veneer installation, gypsum board application to maintain room temperature not less than 40 degrees Fahrenheit, gypsum board adhesive application and joint treatment, texture and decoration no less than 50 degrees Fahrenheit unless otherwise recommended by the manufacturer. Note: When using a temporary heat source, do not allow the ambient temperature to exceed 95 degrees Fahrenheit in any given room or area.
Maintain adequate ventilation in the work area during installation and maintenance. Do not use plasterboard because it is extreme or continuous when exposed to moisture. Take care to ensure that the gypsum board is not exposed to temperatures exceeding 125 degrees Fahrenheit for extended periods of time.
For example, when located near a wood burning furnace, electric light, electric heating equipment or other heating device or hot air flue.
Note: Proper installation of lighting and other heat-generating electrical equipment requires strict compliance with national electrical codes. When using gypsum board in an air handling system, keep the gypsum board surface temperature above the air dew point temperature but below 125 degrees Fahrenheit.
